Predator

Some Predator exploration back in 2016, always fun to explore different ideas early on in a project. These were an evolution of some early ideas Constantine Sekeris explored on the project that i was asked to take a crack at. https://www.artstation.com/benmauro

The Predator Dog was the last task i worked on. Bryan Wynia and the ADI guys had already done most of the development on the design and i was asked to figure out color/skin patterns/dredds and some refinement/exploration in a few different directions. I wasn't given the model the other guys made at the time so this was sculpted from a sphere in Zbrush based on the earlier work Bryan/ADI had done.

BLUE - Neobatrachia

This critter was sitting on my hard drive for a while, finally got around to rendering up the top view. Some sort of alien winged poison dart frog type creature that has the ability to glide from tree to tree, this guy is a bit smaller than the green variant and also has a thin membrane between his back wings to help glide/maneuver faster to evade predators. Will be doing a more elaborate rendering of the design soon posed on a branch or something so you can see it in a more dynamic view and/or maybe a grey render to show the form a bit more clearly? Similar to other creatures in this world it sees its surroundings with some sort of sonar type pulse, the head is some advanced almost completely circular disc type form, almost like the big radar dishes you see on AWAC’s, so this little guy has a very clear picture of his surroundings from 360 degrees while it is in the air. Think it would look really cool as this creature twists and turns in the air and this disc head form rotates first as it leans into turns, like some strange shifting geometric form cutting through the air.
A bit hard to see the design with the poison dart frog paint-job so here was the block-out of the model. Will detail him up and make a bit more sense of the design before i do the more dynamic pose/render.

CDW Warmups

Starting to do some warmups for the CDW workshop in Australia next month. Haven't timed myself in a while so i wanted to get back up to speed. Was quite fun to go from idea, sketch, sculpture to rendering/painting in 3 hours, much faster than i was expecting! Im sure some friends could probably do this in 30 mins or something, but i tend to take too much time for personal work to experiment/fail, so this was fast for me.

Will be doing this pretty regularly until July 7th and post anything else. Definitely keeping things a bit simple at this point so i will start attempting more and more complex designs within the time limit as i go along.

3hr or less limit on each so apologies for the light design.

H+ beginnings...

In the late 21st century, experiments in transhumanism are accelerating. Tests started in chimps and other primates to begin merging the mind with technology. This being an early experiment in successful implantation in a chimp, his rate of cognitive development and capacity quickly surpassing that of a human, post operation.

This has been sitting on my laptop for far too long, just couldn't get a version i was happy with...too conservative or something? don't know, decided to just put it out there and move on to something more interesting. I have a few different versions of this, i might upload the other ones to various other art sites.

Spring Update...

Feel bad for taking so long to update but finally have something to share. In my downtime i have been starting to learn Zbrush and am finding it to be a really useful tool in a film production environment. This is an early experiment from the weekend created from a simple basemesh. It was fun sculpting all the little details in the face, i really learned a lot. Seems like most of my co-workers have a "Primate with Horns" design in their portfolio so i thought i would give it a try......(even though it doesn't make a ton of sense from an evolutionary standpoint) it was still fun to do. :)
An early test while learning the tools in ZBrush, rendered in Keyshot. Thanks a ton to Andrew Baker for putting up with all my questions while learning the program over the past month or so, and to the Eat3D guys for making such informative tutorial DVD's. Will hopefully have something more interesting to show soon!

New Year

Yikes, time flies and a new year is here already. Feeling guilty for not updating this thing so i will try to add some more stuff over the next couple weeks before i get wrapped up in work again. Been extremely busy at my day-job, but i will make a concerted effort to do more personal work this year. A wip i started over the weekend, not sure what else to do with it.
Some mech spam for the time being. Junky industrial machines found in the lower sector of a ruined city.....lots of garbage to clean up down there....Carlo, u win this round. :P
Some sort of larger processor machine.Might do a separate post for this soon, i wanted to show the mini sabot rounds functionality in a bit more detail. So here is the White Wolf™ anti-material SMG.Another design in the same world as an earlier piece last year. A smaller pistol sized unit, with the same 'centrifuge weapon system' as the larger rifle.

Mid-Summer mini update....

My 8-week internship at SPA has ended. I got to work with some of my all-time heroes, learned a lot, and had a great time. The remainder of my summer will be spent with some more heroes over at Ready at Dawn.

In an attempt to have more work that i can show periodically that isn't under NDA for 2-5+ years. I have started development on a number of personal IP projects in the little spare time i have, more as things start moving along.

Hope everyone is well, and enjoying their summer.

Sunday Sketchin' for fun. Speedie for LMS. Form Language Sketch Group....its fun!Alien Race Update: Coming Fall 2008
